Everything I saw on the big screen this month

Shiva Baby (2020) - 4.5/5 🪩
Shiva Baby was the second film of the Emma Seligman double feature at the Bell Lightbox, and OMG what a debut! I went with my friend Matthew, and even though I was on the brink of a massive panic attack the entire time, I had fun! I'm gonna need Emma Seligman's next film to star Rachel Sennott, Ayo Edebiri and Molly Gordon because after they crossed over in different summer projects, it just has to happen.
Scrapper (2023) - 5/5 🪩
I knew I was going to like this movie as soon as I saw the trailer. I literally bought tickets for it the second the movie I was actually going to see was over. Harris Dickinson was fantastic in Triangle of Sadness so I wanted to see what else he was capable of. As amazing as his performance was, Lola Campbell, who played his daughter was OUTSTANDING. I still don't have all the words to express how much I loved this film, but it's definitely a top contender for my favourite of the year. I also got to keep the movie poster which I CANNOT wait to get framed.
In support of SAG-AFTRA, I will not be discussing struck work until an agreement has been reached. In the meantime, you can find my reviews on Letterboxd if you're interested.
Toopy and Binoo The Movie (2023) - 3.5/5 🪩
My Letterboxd review was so good that I'm just going to copy it here.
Growing up is realizing that Toopy isn’t just annoying, he’s painfully narcissistic and depends on Binoo’s lack of speech to give him purpose. however, he is a supporter of trans rights, so he ate that one lil thing. Anyway, real cinema is back! this was an excellent commentary on narcissism, codependency, our reliance on technology and daddy issues.
