Dominic Fike performed at History Toronto (aka the Drake venue) last night and it was definitely one of the most eventful concerts that I've been to this year.

Was I the biggest Dominic Fike fan when I bought the ticket? No, but I put in the work! Dominic's discography wasn't too extensive, so I gave myself about a month or so to really get into the music. I'd say I was pretty successful.

For GA, I like to line up about 3 ish hours before doors. Barricade isn't really the goal for me but I still like to have enough time to get merch and use the washroom before securing a spot (I'll probably write a post about my concert routine so stay tuned for that).

I had my popular culture exam the next day and the review took a little longer than I anticipated, so I got to History half an hour later than I would've liked. I started panicking as soon as I got off the streetcar, but, to my surprise, I only had to turn two corners. When I say I was shocked. Like ??? I think the line was short because it was exam season and it was cold outside. Lining up in the queue is NOT for the weak.

I forgot to bring my Airpods, but I ended up making friends in the line so the wait could've been worse (I also brought a book but I gave up once it got dark).

Once I finally got inside, I succeeded in getting the spot I wanted. I'm much too short for the pit at History (I learned the hard way) so I like to stand behind the railing above the floor.

Unfortunately, I was sandwiched between fakes. On my right was a group of friends who I don't think actually listened to any of Dominic's music (except Elliot's Song) and on my left was THE MOST obnoxious couple ever. They literally wouldn't stop talking. I'm not sure which one of them wanted to get tickets, but the only song they knew was "3 Nights". The number of people in the crowd who didn't know a single lyric was horrendous. If you're gonna steal tickets from real fans, at least study the setlist enough to fake it well. It's audiences like that which make me fearful of artists not returning to Toronto (If there's anything I've learned this year, it's that Toronto crowds SUCK). It was even worse because Dominic was SO excited to play at Drake's venue (he spent most of his banter geeking out about the TVs backstage).

On the plus side, he added Wurli to the setlist and it was amazing!!!

Anyways, you're probably wondering what made the concert so special. Other than the fantastic set, I got to kind of meet Dominic Fike outside the venue.

@fiketours, had been posting about Dominic meeting fans after the concert, so I thought to myself, why not try? I waited about an hour with other excited fans and when we finally saw him walk out, I almost died.

Of course, I knew he was real (I literally just watched him perform for 90 minutes) but I guess it didn't really click until I saw him up close. As he was making his rounds, I tried to come up with what I was going to say. The fan beside me had offered me a sharpie and a piece of paper for him to sign which was super nice of them.

He eventually came over, and I took pics for all my new friends, but when I got the opportunity, I froze. I couldn't bring myself to move two inches and ask for a picture. Just as I mustered up the courage to ask, he said he was about to leave. His actual words were, "I'm cold and I have to pee." Out of desperation, I took a disastrous selfie with him kind of in it and thanked him for a great concert. I think he heard me, but I guess we'll never know.

I'm still trying to gaslight myself into believing that it's not the end of the world that I waited forever and finessed my way to the front just to not meet him, but it kind of is.
