In Theatres
Everything I saw on the big screen this month

My pockets are empty from going to the theatre so often, but I had fun!
Close (2022) - 3/5 🪩
The trailer played for this before When You Finish Saving the World, and it looked good, so I booked my ticket to see it the next week. Unfortunately, it only dug me deeper into the mediocrity rut. My main issue with the movie was the pacing. It was good in the beginning, but it started to get wonky near the middle. The whole thing could've easily been 15-20 minutes shorter. However, the cinematography was stunning, and I appreciated the focus on how mental health can impact us at any age.
Triangle of Sadness (2022) - 4/5 🪩
I saw this with Penelope, who lives across the hall, and I ate it UP. The bill scene is one of the most iconic things I've ever seen on screen. I don't know how Ruben Östlund did it, but Carl and Yaya's mannerisms were spot on. Though I don't really like unresolved endings, I'll let it slide because it was such a good film.
Puss and Boots: The Last Wish (2022) - 5/5 🪩
I don't usually watch movies in theatres twice, but the new Puss and Boots was just so good that I had to see it again. Penelope didn't believe me when I said this film would alter her brain chemistry, but immediately after we left the theatre, she gave it 5 stars on Letterboxd. Though it's probably gonna lose the Oscar to Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, it's still an excellent film. The pacing was perfect and the jokes were a little TOO funny for a kids' movie. If you still haven't seen this movie, literally, what are you doing?
Titanic (1997) - 4.5/5 🪩
I recognize the irony in watching this during Black History Month, but I couldn't miss the opportunity to have my first watch of Titanic be in the theatre (my laptop wouldn't have done it justice). My favourite thing about this movie is that it feels like a movie (word to Harry Styles). James Cameron packed pretty much all the major genres into one riveting film, and I ate it up. Did I feel the three hours? Yes, but I also wouldn't cut anything out because the cinematography is excellent. Also, there is no way that door would've stayed afloat with both of them on it, like BFFR.
Ant-man and the Wasp: Quantumania - 2.5/5 🪩
Um, it was camp! I've seen worse, but I've also seen much better. Jonathan Majors was great, but somehow his excellent performance made the movie even more unserious. Some of the jokes landed, but most did not. Though the ants were pretty cool, I refuse to believe this is the same MCU that gave us Winter Soldier.
