Everything I saw on the big screen this month

Mean Girls (2024) - 3.5/5 🪩

This adaptation of Mean Girls assumes you already know the story. I mean, as it should because how could you not at this point? The whole thing relies on spectacle which is fun, but there's absolutely zero substance. The runtime is too long for that.

Reneé Rapp is a star, obviously. That girl can sing for real. I thought I was going to give this a rewatch, but I've had no desire to. The only part of the film worth rewatching is Avantika's "Sexy."

Anyone But You (2023) - 3.5/5 🪩

Of course, I saw this one with Sayak. I love a self-aware, campy, rom-com! I had fun. Glenn Powell needs to do more rom-coms immediately because he's so excellent (if you haven't seen Set It Up what are you doing?). Also, Sydney Sweeny is too hot to play a loser like be so for real.

American Fiction (2023) - 4.5/5 🪩

American Fiction is one of the best adaptations I've ever seen. After reading the book, I'm even more blown away than I was leaving the theatre. I'm so glad Cord Jefferson won the Academy Award for adapted screenplay because it's honestly genius.

Taxi Driver (1976) - 3/5 🪩

Another classic with Owi! I know this film is iconic, but I didn't really get the vision.
