Let's Start Here by Lil Yachty - 5.7
One of my roommates loves this album, but I'm not sure I see the vision. I do like the alternative route for Yachty, but I wish the album had more staying power. My favourite song is "the ride-".
Stereo by Omar Apollo - 6.8
After hearing Omar open for SZA, I immediately started a deep dive into his discography (more on that soon). Stereo is an impressive debut! All I can hope is that he'll perform a song or two from it on his next tour. My favourite is, "Hijo De Su Madre".
Friends by Omar Apollo - 7.1
I was taken aback as soon as I pressed play. What do you mean he opened with a HIT, and it's not even the best on the EP? The last project was good but he was NOT playing around with this one. I could play this on loop for hours and not get bored (it's not even an exaggeration because I literally did this and enjoyed every second). My favourite song is the title track.
"On My Own" by Ross Lynch - 8.0
Another one of my roommates resurrected my Disney Channel Ross Lynch era and I'm so here for it. I hadn't listened to this song since the Teen Beach sequel came out, but it has since been added to our group's rotation, and I love it. R5 was ahead of their time when they wrote this song.
"Love Again" by The Kid Laroi - 7.4
I love The Kid Laroi. There, I said it. Charlton may have distanced himself from his rap roots, but I don't mind the pop songs. I actually quite like them! It's not lyrically genius or anything, but I thought it was fun and I need more of that right now.
"A&W" by Lana Del Ray - 8.0
I don't normally listen to Lana, but my neighbour, Penelope, from across the hall told me to listen to it and I ended up liking it. I didn't like the first single off of the new album but "A&W" piqued my interest. Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd might just be the first Lana album I listen to in full.
Other things I listened to:
"Up to You" feat. NCT DREAM by PRETTYMUCH
"Boy's a liar Pt. 2" by PinkPanthress & Ice Spice
"Eleven" feat. Summer Walker by Khalid
"3 Boys" by Omar Apollo
Apolonio by Omar Apollo
Ivory by Omar Apollo
Highlights
This month's faves
Song of the Month: "Nobody Gets Me" by Sza
Of course, "Nobody Gets Me" is number one again. I promise I'll be in tears before I hear her sing, "took a long vacation".
Album of the Month: The Batman (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) by Michael Giacchino
Reading The Oddyesy with this playing in the back was surreal. It almost made trying to understand Homer bearable. Almost.
Artist of the Month: Beyoncé
Scrambling for Reny tickets and going out to Club Renaissance at my school's pub secured Queen Bey this title. The number of times I played Renaissance this month almost made it feel like summer again. Though she lost the Grammy for best album, she still became the most-awarded artist in Grammy history, a perfect way to kick off Black History Month.
